Andres Godoy with Ryan Leblanc

Chilean Guitarist

Andres Godoy was born in San Antonio port (Chile). When he was 14 he lost his entire right arm in an accident. From there, he invented a technique for guitar with a hand to which he calls "Tatap". Weaving together rich acoustic guitar tones, the unique timbre of a claw hammer banjo, and the sweet, lonely voice of harmonica, Ryan LeBlanc creates layered melodic soundscapes that are nothing short of captivating.

Presents:

Jayme Stone

From Africa to Appalachia (the story of Afro American Roots Music)

"Bridging jazz, bluegrass and everything in between with smart compositions, playful jams, and a great sense of purpose. It's music that's difficult to describe, but easy to love."
CBC RADIO

While on his musical mecca to Africa, Jayme Stone rarely let locals know of his accolades and burgeoning recording career in North America. He went to immerse himself in the high-spirited soundscapes, the daily life and lore of Africa. What he came home with was knowledge of two banjo ancestors never revealed before in the West, aspects of African music that eluded its American counterparts, and musical friendships that reach across continents...

LIVE THEATRE

Fri. July 31 and Sat. Aug 1 @ 8:00pm
St. Andrews Arts Council Presents:

The Trudeau Stories

Written & Performed by Brooke Johnson

In 1985, while she was a student at the National Theatre School in Montreal, Brooke Johnson became friends with Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

It had been a year and a half since he'd stepped down as Prime Minister, and now he was walking to work, putting cereal bowls on cartoon placemats, washing dishes and making peanut-butter on toast. He was no longer doing pirouettes behind the Queen but sometimes he was hanging around with Brooke, sliding down ice-covered staircases on Mount Royal.

Through reminiscences, journal entries and correspondence, Brooke brings to life the story of a remarkable friendship.

This private insight into the man and the times as seen through the eyes of a passionate artist is not to be missed.

At once vital and charming; poignant and very funny, Trudeau Stories is about friendship and loss...and about who the heck we think we are.

LIVE MUSIC

Tuesday August 4, 2009: Time 8pm
Presents:

Notre Dame de Grasse and Sheesham & Lotus

Bluegrass and Alternative Folk

When talking hard driving bluegrass with a penchant for both traditional and progressive styles it’s hard to find a band more committed than Notre Dame de Grass. Constantly in pursuit of achieving what John Cohen coined that "high lonesome" sound, vocalist Matt Large and the rest of NDG take their cues from both the traditional canon and the progressive tomes of bluegrass music.

Sheesham and Lotus met high in the Appalachian Mountains. As musicians playing for old-time dances and gatherings, they kept running in to each other in all the states of the union. Much to the joy of the people, they finally decided to band together as a duo and spread the joy of old-time music and dance. The music is Old-time Rag-time High Steppin' Mountain music.
